It's scholarship and award season, and Acuity’s cover story recognises that the grants offered by accounting firms and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand can do much more than simply provide financial support. Recipients tell their stories of how the money and the recognition is helping them, and what they wish to achieve in their careers. Plus, spread the word and head online to apply for the 2023–2024 grants.
“When you prepare the submission you think, “Wow, did I do all that?’. I think that’s really important for your own career.”
Accountants’ professional conduct has also been much in the news recently. Members will have received an email in June from CEO Ainslie van Onselen, announcing the findings and recommendations of the CA ANZ Professional Conduct Review. In this issue, she delves into the review process and explains which recommendations are being implemented already, and which ones will require member approval later this year.
We also ask: are we ready for the new base erosion and profit shifting rules – BEPS Pillar 2? We look at the work ahead to make sure multinational companies pay their fair share of tax and comply with the Global Anti-Base Erosion Rules.
And Australia is catching up with New Zealand’s anti-money laundering reforms of five years ago. Find out what New Zealand members learned when the reforms were implemented and how these improvements can prevent you from being inadvertently caught up in money laundering practices.
Mental health awareness and workplace duty of care have never been more in the spotlight. Both Australia and New Zealand shine a light on mental wellbeing in September, so we find out how you can start a conversation with a colleague if you think they may be struggling with mental health concerns such as depression or burnout.
