If you feel like you have lived 40 years in the first four months of 2022, you’re not alone. An Omicron surge in New Zealand, volcanic eruption in Tonga, floods, fires and COVID in Australia, and conflict in Europe is not what anyone was hoping for on New Year’s Eve.

Yet, life and business continue. And we can use what we’ve learned over the past two years to adapt and thrive.

The April 2022 edition of Acuity includes practical advice on navigating the new shape of business. In “Please, won’t you stay?” we look at the best approaches to attract new talent and keep great staff as borders creak open. It’s becoming an issue as chartered accountants develop itchy feet post-lockdown and look for new opportunities.

We also talk to accountants on the move – what’s luring them overseas or pulling them back home?

The competition for financial talent was white-hot last year, and some organisations are still finding it hard to fill positions. If you have taken on remote workers or offshored tasks to cope with the workload, you’ll already be aware of some of the complexities of paying employees based overseas.

“The competition for financial talent was white-hot last year, and some organisations are still finding it hard to fill positions.”

The good news is there are solutions. In “How to manage a dispersed workforce” we look at six options that can smooth the payroll and HR niggles of paying a dispersed team.

And if the seemingly never-ending waves of COVID have seen you toiling from home 18 hours a day for months, take a tip (or five) from our new columnist Heather Smith FCA. In this issue, she shares how you can use technology to set work boundaries that benefit both your productivity and wellbeing.

It’s all in the latest issue of Acuity, landing in letterboxes from 1 April.
