Our secret to healthy cash flow
The Healthy Chef has earned more than half a million Qantas Points with a business Card that’s helping the brand reach new heights. Brought to you by American Express.
After experiencing various health challenges, The Healthy Chef founder Teresa Cutter noticed there was a gap in the market. “There weren’t any health products that I wanted to take that were high quality, actually good for me and tasted delicious,” she says.
From that single idea, Teresa and her husband, Paul, have spent 10 years developing The Healthy Chef into a multi-million dollar business that has grown by as much as 30% year-on-year and employs seven full-time employees. It now stocks nearly 40 health-related products, from collagen and magnesium supplements to wellbeing-boosting teas.
With the business’s rapid growth came growing pains and a transition between banks prompted the Cutters to sign up for the American Express® Qantas Business Rewards Card to better manage their cash flow.
“We needed something that could stay on top of all our automated and recurring bills like the cost of the website, suppliers and shipping,” says Paul. “The dynamic line of unsecured funding1 on our Card was a really powerful tool.”
The Card has also helped The Healthy Chef accrue more than half a million Qantas Points. The business earns up to 1.25 Qantas Points per $1 spent on everyday business expenses with the American Express Qantas Business Rewards Card – and 2 Qantas Points per $1 spent on Qantas products and services.2
The Cutters reinvest these Qantas Points into the business, using them for Qantas flights to business meetings and in promotion of the brand’s new ventures. “We’re flying all the time, meeting with suppliers and distributors,” says Teresa. “We’ve just released a new book called Simple Healthy Recipes and I’ve been travelling around the country for TV appearances and masterclasses to promote that. It’s an exciting time for our business.”
The key to funding new ideas
The Healthy Chef is self-funded, meaning Teresa and Paul Cutter have had to be smarter about the way they manage their cash. “We’re a family-owned business, we don’t have backers. Knowing we can manage cash flow with up to 51 days to pay for purchases3 on the Card – and toggle investment into the production and marketing of new ideas as needed – is a great feature,” says Paul.
