CA ANZ’s innovative master’s degree partnership
Master’s students can complete the CA Program as part of their degree at the University of Western Australia.
In Brief
- Students can complete the CA Program as part of the full-time Master of Professional Accounting degree at the University of Western Australia.
- The move is part of a broader plan to refresh and diversify the CA Program.
- A similar opportunity is offered at the Victoria University of Wellington.
Students enrolled in the Master of Professional Accounting degree at the University of Western Australia can now begin their CA qualification as part of their degree studies.
Students can fulfil the requirements of the CA Program while completing the 18-month or two-year full-time Master of Professional Accounting degree.
This opens the CA qualification to graduates who studied in a field other than accounting before commencing the master’s degree. It’s also expected this may attract international students who might not have access to the CA Program in their home country.
CA ANZ group executive of education and learning, Simon Hann, says the move is part of a broader plan to refresh and diversify the CA Program.
“The CA Program combines the rigour of education and the practical application of learned skills in the workplace,” he says.
“This new study pathway will attract a more diverse range of talent into the profession and help business professionals looking to kick-start their careers in accounting.”

Most graduates complete their CA studies while working, but the embedded CA Program means students can complete all the academic requirements (including CA exams) before starting in their first finance role, and so improve their career opportunities.
However, they will still need to accrue three years of approved practical experience before becoming a qualified CA.
In 2019, CA ANZ partnered with Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand to enable Master of Professional Accounting students to study the CA Program as part of their degree.
