New CA ANZ scholarships honour Craig Norgate FCA

Two new CA ANZ scholarships have been announced for New Zealand in honour of the late Craig Norgate FCA

In brief

  • The late Craig Norgate FCA led New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) at a key time in its history
  • The Craig Norgate Memorial Scholarships celebrate Norgate’s intellect and generous spirit
  • The new scholarships are aimed at helping cover students’ course costs

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand has launched two new scholarships aimed at honouring the memory of New Zealand business leader Craig Norgate FCA and supporting young New Zealanders setting out on their careers as chartered accountants.

Norgate, who led NZICA at a key time in its history – its amalgamation with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICCA) – died aged 50 in 2015. Norgate played a key role in the formation of Fonterra and was the dairy co-operative’s first chief executive.

Kirsten Patterson, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand’s New Zealand Country Head, says the Craig Norgate Memorial Scholarships aim to celebrate Norgate’s intellect and generous spirit.

“He was someone you would go the extra mile for,” Patterson says. “For the scholarships, we are looking for people who, like Craig, embodied leadership, a community spirit and action, bold ideas, entrepreneurship, business acumen, pride, passion and drive.”

Patterson, who was part of NZICA’s executive team, believes Norgate’s life will resonate with young New Zealanders wanting to become chartered accountants and business leaders.
